Zenith District 3 Qualifyer

Annmarie had another gymnastics meet at Zenith. It started late and it was only her and McKenzie Benitez at this meet. She did a much better vault than the past few meets, but only got 8.4 on vault, which we were all surprised. She got a 9.025 on bars, 8.93 on beam (she had a big wobble)--placed 3rd though, and 9.2 on floor to tie for 4th. She came away with a 35.525 All Around, which is her high for this season. She is always shooting for a 36 for All Around. The last two seasons, she didn't get that 36 until the state meet (or district champs last year since she was sick for state), so there's still time to get there!

 

All the Games and Other Stuff

We keep really busy with all the games. In the fall, we have football and fall baseball and Annmarie's competitive season. Jonah hopes to also play baseball in the spring.  We couldn't sign him up for fall because of football.  Nathan is enjoying baseball this season more. He was put on a different team because the Red Sox that we were on were dissolved, due to several kids moving up to the next level.  Corey was willing to coach again, but because so many boys left, they combined with the other Red Sox team.  Nathan had to do the draft and was put on the Rangers team.  So far, it's been a pretty good experience for him.  It was nice to come into a team that is already established.  And, one of the players is from Groves and one of the other players, his mom was Jonah's first grade teacher. I've included a picture of Willy just for fun.  I try to take pictures of him occasionally in case he gets out and wanders off. 

 

HOCO 2023

Eliza and some of her friends went to the Homecoming dance in a group. They had pictures done before the dance and ate some dinner. Stefanie Zeltner took the pictures.  She is a professional photographer and her sons were three of the boys in the pictures. 

 

Black Pearl Gymnastics Meet

Annmarie's second meet of the season was at Rogue Gymnastics, the Black Pearl meet. She had a bit of a rough meet. She placed 2nd on bars with an 8.775 but did not get top three in any other event or All Around. Her All Around score was 35.225 and she placed fifth. However, her floor score was higher at this  meet than last meet (9.0 this time, last time was 8.55) and her beam score was also higher (8.9 over 7.8).  Night-time meets are always rough because the girls are tired.  Nowhere to go but up!

 

Weekend Fun

On the Saturday of Homecoming, Corey worked. Travis did not go to Homecoming; instead he and his friends hung out and ended up driving to the Oklahoma border. Eliza went to the dance with a group of her friends. Annmarie had a gymnastics meet on the night of the dance. Nathan had a baseball practice during the day, and I had to have someone from his team bring him home because of the gymnastics meet.

 

Homecoming Festivities and Game

Homecoming was really early this year, September 8th with the dance on the 9th.  The parade was on a Wednesday night, and I took whatever kids would come with me to it.  One of the dress-up days at the high school was biker or Hawaiian.  Travis dressed biker and is in the back of the mixed choir picture.  Eliza dressed Hawaiian and is in the front of the other picture.  Jonah was able to sit with his friends at the homecoming game and Nathan tagged along, which was so fun for him.

 

Jonah Football and Fun

Jonah quit gymnastics in July and decided to do football at school instead. He is number 84 on the maroon team here.  He played cornerback and did pretty well.  

I was driving him somewhere and noticed he looked like the kid on the cover of Mad Magazine, so I told him.  He didn't know what that was, so I had to google it and show him a picture, so I'm including it here.

 

McAllen Temple

McAllen Texas got a temple. That is where both Corey and Toby served their missions. Toby flew out to Dallas over Labor Day weekend and then he and Corey took off after church to drive down to McAllen to tour the temple. They were gone on Monday and came back Tuesday and then Toby left. They got to explore their old mission stomping ground and spend some quality time together.
