More UIL

Corey and I went to back-to-back UIL performances for Jonah and Eliza.  Jonah's band had their UIL at the Allen Performing Arts Center on Monday the 30th and Eliza had her treble choir UIL at the Robinson Performing Arts Center in Plano later that same day so we drove from one to the other.

Then a few days later, Eliza had her mixed choir UIL at the Allen Performing Arts Center, and I went to that.  She is done with UIL for music now!  All that's left is theatre UIL.

BYU-Provo or Idaho?

Eliza got accepted to both BYU Provo and BYU-Idaho, and I wanted her to make an informed decision, so she and I flew up to Utah the Monday after Spring Break so we could take campus tours of both schools.  We were able to meet up with Maggie and Westley for lunch at the BYU Creamery while in Provo and then took the campus tour.  After that, we went up to  Westley and Alejandra's apartment in Lehi for dinner and then on to Aunt Amy's where we were staying the night.  

The next day, we drove the 3 hours up to Rexburg Idaho.  We stopped over to see Jordan's daughter Leah Tenney (she got married last April) and chat with her for a bit before heading up to campus to go to the devotional with Caleb and his girlfriend Mika.  We bumped into a few people from our stake here in Texas, including Sarah Rigby and Ella Denny, Lydia Shumard, Camden Blacker, and Bradley Fastnaught, and our tour guide happened to be Megan LaMarche.  After our tour of campus, we went back to North Salt Lake and had dinner with Aunt Amy.

On Wednesday, we drove down and around our old neighborhood and then on down to Orem to have lunch with Westley at a Village Baker there before heading back to the airport and home.  It was a quick trip, but it was a great trip.  Eliza decided on BYU Provo and is very excited for her next chapter.

Wylie ISD at the Meyerson

Eliza and Annmarie were both involved in Wylie ISD at the Meyerson this year--Eliza with A'Cappella and Annmarie with Choraliers.

Jonah was not in the highest level band so he was not involved.  I was happy this year to be able to go since I missed out last year due to a gymnastics meet for Annmarie. 

 

Orchestra and Choir UIL

 Annmarie and Eliza had back-to-back UIL performances for junior high choir and high school orchestra.  This was Eliza's final UIL for orchestra, so I had to go.  I love being able to go to the kids' events that happen during the school day and purposely did not accept sub jobs for these days so I could go.  

Orchestra Concert and Symphony Field Trip

 

Eliza had her pre-UIL orchestra concert this week.  This is when they perform their UIL music for parents.  UIL is at the beginning of March, so they always do a concert before it.  Eliza is in the 6th period orchestra, which is basically a freshman class, and she is the only senior.  She did not audition for the chamber orchestra because that is during 4th period and she was hoping to make Tempo for choir, which is also 4th period.  She couldn't do 3rd period orchestra because of choir or 5th period because of Black Box theatre.  It hasn't been her favorite year of orchestra as a class, but she does enjoy spending time with her friends from orchestra.

Nathan went to the Plano Symphony for a 4th grade field trip.  He really enjoyed the symphony and was glad to go.  

Eliza's Senior Church Formal

Eliza chose to go to the church formal with a group of friends. The friends in her group consisted of Kaylee Collett, Julianne Shipp, Logan Adams, and two more kids. I went with them to take pictures and feel like I did an all right job despite my lack of skill in photography. After the pictures, they went to Olive Garden for dinner. Then they went to the dance at Boyd Farm in Rockwall. After the dance, they came to our house for snacks and games. Overall, it was a good night.

 

Little Shop of Horrors

Eliza was one of the Ronettes in the high school's rendition of "Little Shop of Horrors".  They had quite a few setbacks with the show being postponed due to the weather and then the opening night show cancelled because of the weather.  But, they did end up performing it on Friday night and twice on Saturday.  

Eliza did a phenomenal job.  She was so fun to watch and looked so grown-up.  She has so much talent.  And that color of yellow looked so fantastic on her!  We enjoyed the show a lot and were so proud of her for her accomplishment.  I am sad that this part of theatre is over for her (musicals).  I hope she continues to participate in community theatre wherever she ends up.
