Pinewood Derby

Caleb and Travis were fortunate to participate in two pinewood derbies this scouting year, one in Utah and one here.

Caleb wanted a pickup truck

Travis designed this himself

Jonah using someone's old car

Eliza using someone's old car

As usual, the cars looked great but weren't very fast.   The kids still had fun, even though they didn't win anything.

Pinewood Derby

Travis got into cub scouts right away.  His birthday was on the same day as the September pack meeting, which was also the Arrow of Light ceremony for Westley.  Then a few weeks later, it was the Pinewood Derby.  Corey made Travis' car look like a Mario cart and Caleb wanted Bumblebee from Transformers.  They had fun racing the cars, even though the cars were often near last place (or in last place).  But neither one of them finished dead last this year, so Corey's car-making skills are improving.

Arrow of Light

At the pack meeting on Travis' birthday, Westley earned his Arrow of Light. He actually finished it in May, but this was the first time that they could do the Arrow of Light pack meeting. We are very proud of our boy!

Model Volcano and Cheese Eater

We made a volcano for a cub scout activity.  The kids sure had fun with it.  We have really liked our cub scout calling, being the bear den leaders with Caleb in our den.

This is how Annmarie eats cheese.  She loves to eat shredded cheese and she'll take it by the handful and stuff it in her mouth.  She is such a cutie pie!

Pinewood Derby 2013

We had our annual pinewood derby and this year, Corey had to help make TWO cars. I think we may just end up being THAT family that buys a pinewood derby pre-cut car kit because once again, ours came in dead last in every single race. Well, the race where they raced each other, Caleb's came in last. The boys acted like they didn't care, but I know they really did. Maybe by the time Jonah has his last one, we'll have figured out how to make them fast? The good news is that at least they got awards for how their cars looked!
Westley's was a Spider-man theme.

Caleb made a Shell Raiser (Ninja Turtles' vehicle) car.

Corey did the cutting and the sanding.  The boys painted them.  I put the wheels on.  I'm probably the reason they didn't go very fast.  But hey, at least they got to participate and still had fun making the cars!
