August Pack Meeting
Westley worked hard this summer to earn his Bobcat and a few belt loops at the August Pack Meeting.

INO Party and Promotion
On Wednesday, August 24th, Corey played softball for In-N-Out all day. That night was a store party for the opening of the newest Utah store. Since Jenna's brother and his family were in Utah as well as Jenna's dad, we invited them to the party.
The next day, Corey had a meeting with the divisional and regional managers. When he walked into the meeting and saw the CEO of the company and a lot of the other people in charge, he was stoked because that could only mean one thing--getting promoted to store manager! Corey is now a store manager. His store is only about 15 minutes away, so it's even closer than where he's been working. We are so excited!

Five Months and Still Growing
While we were in Arizona for our family visit, Jonah turned five months. He's such a little chunk. I don't know how much he weighs, and I'm not sure he's grown much since four months because he hasn't been eating a whole lot, but he is still quite chunky with fat little legs that are so adorable. He is all smiles all the time.
We've been having a lot of trouble with his sleep schedule and eating schedule. At his four month checkup, he was sleeping 10-12 hours at night, but his naps were all off, only catnaps of 20-30 minutes at a time. So I talked to the pediatrician and she thought it was strange that his naps were all crazy, but the fact that he was sleeping well at night made her less worried.
He did great in Arizona. He took good naps and slept all night, but since we've been home, he's done horribly, even worse than before. His naps are still all over the place and his night time sleep is starting to suffer too. He's only sleeping for about 8 hours for the longest stretch and sometimes getting up twice at night to eat.
We've noticed that it takes him a very long time to finish a 5-oz bottle, like sometimes a whole hour, and that he often falls asleep quickly while eating and then is hard to rouse. Then he doesn't sleep for long and is starving upon waking. I tracked his eating and found that at 4 months, he was taking in about 30+ ounces in a day but recently, he was only getting around 24, sometimes as little as only 17 in one day.
So yesterday, I ran to the store and bought some fast flow nipples. They are really for 7 months and older, but he just seemed to be having a lot of trouble eating. Since starting to use the new nipples yesterday afternoon, he has done better. Not a complete turnaround, he still is having some trouble, but he took a one hour nap this morning and a 3-1/2 hour nap this afternoon. He seemed happier and took a lot of bottle--like about 10-12 ounces just before those naps. I'm hoping that tonight he does better and that maybe the problem was that he was hungry. I'm crossing my fingers that is the case!

Fun Times in Arizona
I drove with my cousin Beth, caravaning from Utah to Arizona and taking two days to do it. It was nice because we left around 1 pm on Thursday, stopped in Kanab overnight around 7:30 pm, and left the next morning around 9 am. We got to my parents' house around 2:30 pm AZ time, so that was really nice. We went swimming after arriving and basically just had a nice first day there.
On Saturday, I had a friend of mine from high school who had lived in Utah until recently and then moved to Arizona come over to my parents' house to swim. Then I went and visited a few friends there.
On Sunday morning, I drove out to see a friend with all the kids and then back to go to 1:30 pm church. After church, we had a big turkey dinner with everyone who was there.
On Monday, I actually didn't feel very good most of the day. I ran some errands, went swimming, took a nap. I made dinner that night for everyone, which was spaghetti.
On Tuesday, some of us went over to a water park in Chandler and I met up with some friends from Arizona there as well. The kids loved it and it was a lot of fun. Maybe next time we're all there, we can all go to this park.
On Wednesday morning, all of us Fowles girls took Paige out to breakfast. Later, Corey arrived with Beth's husband Mark and Beth and I went to pick them up from the airport. Then we came back to the house. Corey and I took the kids and went to see his brother who lives in Gilbert. Then we came home to celebrate Austin's 25th birthday.
On Thursday, we went to the temple for the wedding. Then we came back to Mesa for the luncheon. The afternoon was spent lazing around and resting. The reception was that night.
On Friday, we all went swimming and hung out and then everybody started leaving. We drove back and stopped halfway again in Kanab at the same place. We arrived back home just in time for Corey to go off to work, so I was left to unpack and clean and get everything ready for Sunday.

Travel Day
During the middle of August, my brother got married in Arizona. So I drove down about a week before the wedding with the kids to spend some extra time there. We didn't want Corey to lose pay by taking vacation time so he stayed behind and flew down just before the wedding and then we all drove home.
On the way down, my cousin and I caravaned. She has one child who is almost two (in the top picture on the end), so she took one of my kids in her car while I had the other four with me. We drove halfway and stopped in Southern Utah for the night and then drove the rest of the way. It was nice breaking up the drive in chunks like that and worked out well.
We stopped in Cove Fort in Central Utah on the way down the first day and that is where we took the pictures.

Our Pioneer Heritage
A little over a week ago the kids and I met up with my sister-in-law and her fabulous kids at "This is the Place" Heritage Park. I really enjoyed the park and wished we could have stayed longer and seen more things. I am considering buying an annual pass, but not until I no longer have to haul an infant carseat in a stroller up and down hills that are made of gravel! Perhaps when the baby is old enough to be in an umbrella stroller and walking part of the time too, like in a couple of years!
But it was fun and there was so much to see. After doing that, and having seen "17 Miracles" earlier in the week, I decided that I am so grateful that I live now. I am grateful for flush toilets and running water. I'm grateful that when I drive to Arizona for a family visit later this week that I get to drive in an air-conditioned car for only 12 hours rather than trekking through snow and facing wolves over the period of several months on foot! I realize that the people who lived in that era didn't know anything else or any other way, but I'm still grateful for the modern conveniences I have!

The next three pictures are of the mini pioneer village playground for the kids to play on. The kids loved it, and why not? Perfect-sized just for them, little houses and businesses for them to play in!

It was a great experience, but I'm eager to go back with Corey along too and see more of the village that we didn't really get to see.
